Happy September 22nd to you!
For those of you who already know why September 22nd is important, good for you! Have a cup of tea in honor of it at 9:30 tonight, and we can share in the celebration together…. separately…. at the same time…. uh, yeah….
If you don’t yet know what it is, today is the birthday of Bilbo and Frodo Baggins–the protagonists of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, respectively. A little geeky, yes, but why not take every opportunity to celebrate life?
Theirs are two lives worth celebrating–despite the fact that they are both fictional characters. They both lived predictable lives, like most of us, until something quite unexpected happened. Gandalf showed up. One time he brought dwarves. The other time he brought news of a mysterious ring. Both times, it changed an ordinary person’s life and provided the opportunity to do something extraordinary. And there’s a great deal we can learn from them. Here are just a few.
– Anyone can be a hero.
– You are responsible for the time you’ve been given.
– Everyone needs a true friend on life’s journey.
– Things don’t always work out the way we want them to, but they always do work out in the end.
– Beautiful moments can occur even in the darkest places.
Bilbo and Frodo are heroes in Middle-Earth. And even though a wizard probably won’t ever show up at your door for tea with a group of thirteen very unlucky dwarves, always remember to be the hero of your own story.
Happy September 22nd!
