“Fairy tales are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten.”
— G.K. Chesterton
And that, in a wise writer’s words, is why I love reading and writing stories. Through stories, I feel the heroism, courage, and sacrifice of great heroes as I conquer their demons alongside them. And through my own stories, I often wage war, wrestling with circumstances, relationships, myself, and finding the answer in part through my characters.
After pondering this quote this morning, it was ironic to come across an article this afternoon on how “Your Life Is More Epic Than You Think.” While I’ve never read Chesterton’s Tremendous Trifles, it’s certainly been added to my reading list now.
What do you love most about writing/reading? Do you ever use your own stories to remind you that dragons can be beaten?
