The pleasant weather means that there’s more roaming outside than there has been in months. On an adventure outside the other day, I came across this tree.
At first, I noticed three birds perched in the middle, so I snapped a picture. Then, as I kept staring, I realized that there weren’t just three.
While this picture only shows six of them, it turns out that there were eight hidden in the tree. (For a much closer view, click on the picture.)
(Part of me wished that there were thirteen so I could spout of the rhyme that the Goblins and Wargs sing at Bilbo, Gandalf, Thorin, and the other dwarves in The Hobbit. You know, “What funny little birds. They have no wings. Oh, what shall we do with the funny little things?”)
It felt like one of those puzzles in Highlights for Kids that I used to love. The longer you stared, the more you would notice. Which is one of the most important reasons to slow down once in a while. After all, who knows what we might be missing.
