While my library is my everyday haven, the perfect place to clear my mind is the ocean. The gentle roar of the waves, the cool breeze off of the water, the warm sun — they refresh everything.
Usually, my only companions are my chair, a book, and my mom (also armed with a chair and book). We sit quietly, side by side, talking occasionally but mostly reading and enjoying the separation from the busy world inland. An introvert’s paradise.
We watch people stroll along the edge of the water or sunbathe nearby. Sometimes, we imagine who they must be and what’s brought them there. Sometimes, we’re too occupied with the sound of the waves and the wind, which overpower any sound beyond a few feet.
When the sun’s too warm, we dip our feet in the water, stretch, watch the clouds, scan the ocean for creatures. Then we return to our chairs for another round of reading.
Where do you like to relax?
